Turiec Cycle Route

The Turiec Cycle Route begins at the Municipal Office in Vrútky. The cycle path runs alongside the Turiec River down to its confluence with the Váh, crosses to the other side of the Váh, and continues along the Krpeľany Canal through Lipovec all the way to Sučany (the Hrabiny district). There, it turns away from the water, and the route continues along the foothills of the Veľká Fatra Mountains. We recommend taking your first break in Turčianska Štiavnička, which is dominated by the reconstructed Révai Mansion and its English park, though you will find other points of interest here as well. The route then continues beneath Sklabina Castle, and you can make the ride along the Cesta hrdinov SNP road even more enjoyable by stopping at three observation towers: Na Tŕní, Na Kalníku, and Na Brotnici. Climbs and descents will be frequent along the Turiec Long-Distance Cycling Route. However, past Mošovce, the terrain levels out, and the route runs almost completely flat from Turčianske Teplice to Horná Štubňa. At the end of Horná Štubňa, remember to turn left by the cross. Here, the road cycling section slowly ends, and the trail continues through pleasant forest terrain. A gently rolling gravel road will bring you all the way to Turček. The cycle path then continues along a forest road through the Krahuľská dolina valley to Krahule, where it briefly connects to the Barborská cesta – a loop spanning nearly 200 km with 29 recommended stops mostly related to mining and history. From Krahule, the cycle path continues to Kremnica via a long downhill stretch leading straight into the historic town center. For this full-day cycling expedition, which measures nearly 90 km, we highly recommend taking advantage of the long summer days.

The route runs along asphalt, gravel, and forest roads. It is suitable for trekking and MTB bikes.
