Terchovské srdce Outlook Tower

Terchovské srdce Outlook Tower

Upper Považie Region

As soon as you enter Terchová (coming from the direction of Žilina), you will be welcomed by a lookout tower on your left, situated on Mount Oblaz. Its shape is meant to resemble the gallows that stood exactly in this spot in the movie Jánošík. The author of the lookout tower is the well-known artist and folk architect Alojz Mucha. The author's inspiration for the tower's name came from a traditional Terchová song with the lyrics: "The heart of Terchová divides in two, one side weeps, the other rejoices...". The weeping of the heart is represented by the local cemetery, which lies nearby.
An educational trail leads to the lookout tower, where you can learn interesting facts about the Malá Fatra Mountains. A great advantage is the quick and easy accessibility of the tower for almost everyone. The path is partly asphalt and rocky further up, making it unsuitable for strollers. The lookout tower has 3 observation terraces, from which you can enjoy views of Malý Rozsutec, Veľký Rozsutec, Tiesňavy, Obšívanka, and Sokolie. Through the narrow entrance to the Vrátna Valley, you will primarily spot Poludňový grúň and a part of Steny. Mravečník and its ridge extending towards Kováčka are also clearly visible from the tower.
While you are in Terchová, it would be a shame not to visit the museum exhibition Jánošík and Terchová, hike one of the most beautiful trails in Malá Fatra – Jánošíkove diery, or grab a bite to eat at the local traditional log-cabin restaurants (koliby) and taste traditional Slovak specialties.

How to get there?

At the intersection near the supermarket, turn left. Right behind it, you will find a fire station, near which the hiking trail to the lookout tower begins. You will find directional signs there to navigate you.

Parking and Public Transport

There is a smaller parking lot directly at the beginning of the trail. From the main road, you must turn left behind the fire station and cross a small bridge.
The bus stop "Terchová, ul. A. F. Kollára," located right at the beginning of the trail, is accessible by bus lines from Žilina.
