Lookout tower on Špicák

Lookout tower on Špicák

Upper Považie Region

The wooden lookout tower above Strečno offers beautiful views of the Žilina Basin (Žilinská kotlina), the ridge of the Malá Fatra Mountains, a part of the Kysuce Highlands (Kysucká vrchovina), and the Strážov Mountains (Strážovské vrchy). You can reach it by following the yellow tourist trail. The tower is also located along the educational trail "Strečnianskym chotárom," so several information boards will enrich your ascent.
The lookout tower boasts a unique feature, as you can see 4 surrounding castles from it: Strečno Castle, Starhrad, Budatín Castle, and Lietava Castle.
You can combine your walk to Mount Špicák with a visit to the medieval Strečno Castle and its bailey, which features a relaxation zone with the medieval village of Paseka. In Strečno, you can also enjoy traditional wooden rafting on the Váh River or take the ferry to the opposite riverbank.

How to get there?

The yellow tourist trail leads to the lookout tower directly from the parking lot below the castle. The path goes through the forest and is relatively steep; expect the ascent to take about 40–45 minutes.
