Martin (ATC) – Strečno
Turiec
The green-marked route is a mountainous, relatively challenging cycling trail and a popular connector between Vrútky and Žilina. The route begins near the former autocamp Martin, Turiec, heading towards Javorná dolina valley. In the valley, the cycle path turns sharply to the right and begins to climb along a wide, high-quality forest road. The long, steady climb continues all the way up to Saračníky. At several spots, it is well worth stopping to enjoy the views over the Lower Turiec basin. From Saračníky, the trail descends via a pleasant downhill section beneath Strečno Castle into the village, where it ends at the reconstructed footbridge leading to Nezbudská Lúčka. A visit to the castle, whose history dates back to the mid-14th century, is definitely worthwhile. You can access the castle through the medieval wooden village of Paseka, built in the style of period medieval structures. The castle offers breathtaking views of the Váh River valley. From the village of Strečno, an excellent cycle path runs around the water reservoir all the way to Žilina along both sides of the Váh; at the same time, you can connect via Varín to the cycle route linking Žilina with Terchová.
The route runs along asphalt, gravel, and forest roads and is suitable for an MTB bike.
