Burian’s Tower

Burian’s Tower

Upper Považie Region

This is not a classic lookout tower like the ones you might be used to. Burianova veža stands in the center of Žilina next to the Katedrála Najsvätejšej Trojice (Holy Trinity Cathedral). In the past, it served as a bell tower, an observation point, and a defense against fires and approaching enemies. Its history is linked to Burian Světlovský, the owner of Strečno Castle between 1526 and 1529, who was also the mayor of Žilina at the time. The tower underwent several reconstructions, receiving its viewing terrace during the last one in 1941. Currently, it is open to the public through guided tours organized by the TIK Žilina (Tourist Information Center), so booking in advance is required. The tower guarantees a unique view of the city and its surroundings.

How to get here?

The tower stands in the city center next to the Katedrála Najsvätejšej Trojice, between Námestie Andreja Hlinku and Mariánske námestie.

Parking and public transport

Parking is available in the Mirage or Aupark shopping centers, or other nearby parking lots in the center of Žilina.
The tower is approximately a 10-minute walk from the railway and bus stations.
